Katie and I had a refreshing time at the beach... It was a good food everyday, sun bathing, boating, water skiing, knee boarding, body surfing, ocean kayaking, island hopping, movie watching, novel reading, card playing, time. But most of all it was wonderful simply being with family.
I'm really looking forward to this conference coming up... This was taken from their website:
July 30–August 2, 2008 Gaithersburg, Maryland
Worship leaders and planners are always on the lookout for ways to serve their churches more effectively. Thank God, we have an increasing number of tools, websites, and books we can turn to. But the most important teaching on modern worship wasn’t written in our lifetime. Thousands of years ago, God gave us the Psalms to inform, inspire, and direct our worship. Every generation has the opportunity to rediscover what he’s said.
That’s what we’ll be doing at WorshipGod08, a conference for anyone who wants to grow in understanding and leading biblical worship. Six main sessions will explore how the Psalms model worship that is God-glorifying, Christ-centered, emotionally engaging, full of faith, relevant, and lived out every day. You’ll also be able to choose five practical seminars that will sharpen your thinking, improve your skills, and refresh your soul. As in past WorshipGod conferences, one of the highlights will simply be meeting and interacting with like-minded Christians who share your passion to glorify God.
Whether you come alone or with your whole team, I hope you’ll join us at WorshipGod08 as we rediscover how the ancient Psalms can transform our worship today....

Katie and I will be on vacation the next two weeks with our families. This week we'll be in Florida with the Fanchers and the following week will be spent with the Helds at the family's beach house north of Wilmington, NC. We are so looking forward to a lengthy time of fellowship with family, rest, and a "re centering" of ourselves on God. Katie just recently passed her NCLEX Exam (Nursing Boards) so we can truly celebrate with her being officially done with school!
I'm just getting into some new books on this trip. I'll be finishing Worship Matters and just beginning Why We're Not Emergent (By Two Guys Who Should Be) and The Doctrines of Grace.... and of course I'll be bringing my ESV Bible.
Also: Check out my videos page for some youtube clips of a Bob Kauflin interview and another clip from a powerful Mark Driscoll message.
This morning I was reading in Ephesians being fed again by the glory of God's grace in Christ. Remember the centrality of the gospel of grace should always remind us of God's sovereignty, never cease to amaze us, always lead us deeper into his love, continually transform us to put others first, and of course to treasure God himself above all things....
We had a great morning on Father's day last Sunday. Sam Storms was preaching on the spirit of adoption.... Awesome sermon. Listen to the whole message at the Grace sermon page.
Here are the songs from the morning:
Glories of Calvary- Steve and Viki Cook (cd- Songs for the Cross Centered Life)
All Hail The Power of Jesus' Name- Edward Perronet and Oliver Holden (Grace Church version...)
Awesome Is The Lord Most High - Chris Tomlin (cd- Every Thing Glorious, Passion Live)
The Cross of Jesus- Nate Fancher (not yet officially recorded... click on the song for a link to hear the demo)
Nothing But The Blood (What Can Wash Away My Sin)- Robert Lowrey (Grace Church version...)
Your Love Oh Lord- Mac Powell and Third Day (cd- Offerings)

It was a great morning. I love singing songs that ring with the clarity of the gospel. God has been really moving in me to keep the simple message of the death and resurrection of Christ as the grounds by which I lead worship. My heart is to lead others into seeing how great God is. My hope is that people would see "the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ". (2 Corinthians 4:6) God alone can do this work; and he uses his Word to do that. That's where I come in as a worship leader. To "skillfully combine God's word with music..." as Bob Kauflin puts it.
As people sing the truth of God's glory as seen in Christ, I pray that their hearts would respond to Him with love and adoration singing, "Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised!" (Psalm 48:1)
I've just recently started Bob Kauflin's new book Worship Matters. It is rich with wisdom on everything involved in worship leading from the practical stuff to heart issues that are so important. Bob has a blog also called Worship Matters that he's been blogging at for two or three years now.
The "modern worship" movement of the last 20 to 30 years has had a huge effect on our churches. Some good, some not so good. Bob is a clear voice of truth among many voices. We as worship leaders need clear discernment on how to lead people into seeing and savoring Christ.
For those of you who lead worship, buy the book, and become a reader of his blog...
My church has just started a new sermon series called "One Month to Live" along with a new blog to go with it. It's a very poignant question: What would you do differently if you knew you had 30 days to live?
The real question that I ask myself is this: How does that question relate to my day to day life in a practical way? What would I regret?
Also check out the book at amazon.
peace,
Nate
A great new resource is available online for worship leaders and musicians. Worship Journal was developed by some friends of mine in the UK with a vision to see the networking of worship leaders happening more intentionaly.
A lot of folks have a MySpace or a PureVolume site to help get their music heard, but Worship Journal helps focus worship leaders on the right stuff. You can upload songs, chord charts and lyrics, teachings, photos, lead sheets, and even poetry. All of this is to serve the church across the globe.... for free.
It's a great idea and I look forward to seeing it what happens.
peace,
Nate
I've been tweaking with the site a bit. I added a brand new page at the top of the navigation list called, musiK.
There you will find several songs that you can hear right from the page. Make sure your computer supports quicktime though...
I got rid of my links pages, and just simplified it to a simple typelist of some of my friends.... You'll find it to your right.
I hope everyone is doing as well as I am. Married life is great... God has blessed me soooo much with Katie. There's no better woman on the planet.
Be blessed...
